Different Types Of Electrical Transformers

An electrical transformer is a device that helps change an electric current's voltage. It does this by changing the number of coils in the transformer.

Transformers are used in a variety of different applications. They are most commonly used in electrical systems, but they can also be found in medical equipment, automotive systems, and other types of electronics.

Types of Electrical Transformers

There are a variety of types of electrical transformers, each with its own specific purpose.

One type of electrical transformer is the step-up transformer. This transformer is used to increase the voltage of an electric current. It does this by transforming high-voltage electricity into lower-voltage electricity.

Another type of electrical transformer is the step-down transformer. This transformer is used to decrease the voltage of an electric current. It does this by transforming low-voltage electricity into higher-voltage electricity.

Other types of electrical transformers include the rectifier, the isolator, and the converter.

How Does an Electrical Transformer Work?

An electrical transformer works by transferring electricity from one voltage to another. It does this by changing the shape of its magnetic field.

When you plug a power cord into an outlet, the transformer in your home converts the 240 volts of AC (alternating current) into the 12 volts DC (direct current) that your appliances use. Similarly, when you plug a battery charger into a wall socket, the transformer converts the 120 volts of AC into the 5 volts DC needed by your battery.
